Clore Automotive Jump-N-Carry 770 - 12 Volt 1700 Peak Amp Booster Pack

Clore Automotive Jump-N-Carry 770 - 12 Volt 1700 Peak Amp Booster Pack

If you're like me, then you like tools that have more than one use. The JNC770 is a tool that fits into that category. Not only does it have enough power to jump start any car or midsize truck or SUV, it also can be used to power most 12 volt accessories that use a cigarette lighter adapter. You can also use the 2 USB ports to charge phones and other accessories.  If that's not enough, it has a very bright LED light to light up your work area in case you find yourself needing to use it at night. Get it here.

We get a lot of questions about some of the features that this jumper has. Hopefully this article well answer most those questions, if you still have questions feel free to reach out via email or give us a call.

In Figure 1 you see the booster pack alongside the accessory bag as it was packaged in the box.

Below, in Figure 2, you can have a better look at  the accessories as well as the manual and the included service coupon. In the top left corner you can see the included charge cable (you can also use a single outlet household extension cord). Just to the right from that you see the 12 volt accessory cord. Once the initial charge is done the 12 volt cable can be used to charge the booster. It is a slower way to charge but is an option. In the bottom left you see the manual and next to that is the service coupon which you can use if you have any problems after the 1 year warranty expires.

One of the things I like about the Jump-N-Carry 770 model is the ability to turn the power off to the booster cables. The manual states to always turn the power button to OFF immediately after use and to keep in the OFF position until ready to jump a car.  In Figure 3 you see the power switch in the ON position, you are also able to see the voltage this unit currently has. Below the voltage reading are the Voltage Status and Light buttons.

In order to read the current voltage status simply press and hold the voltage status button. It will read CHG if the voltage is less than 12.4V indicating the unit needs to be charged immediately. it will flash CHG three times if the voltage is between 12.4V-12.8V indicating the unit needs to be charged. When the unit is fully charged, if you press and hold the voltage status button the reading will alternate between showing the voltage and FUL as seen in Figures 4 & 5.  That means the unit is fully charged and ready to save the day!

Also visible in Figures 4 & 5 are the 12V port and 2 USB ports. One of the USB ports has a maximum output of 1.1 Amps and the other has a maximum of 2.1 Amps. If you notice the green light between the USB port is illuminated, that indicates the USB ports are live. That is activated by pressing the Voltage status button quickly.

The LED light on the face of the unit is activated by pressing and the Light button below the Voltage gauge for 3 seconds. To turn it off press the button once quickly. In Figure 6 the LED is illuminating the accessory bag. It is a high intensity LED so its bright enough to help you see your work area in the dark.

On the back of the unit there is a male 120V charging port. This is where you connect the provided charging cord or the extension cord to charge this booster. You can also see the extra long  68" #2 AWG welding cable leads which make it very easy to use. With that length you should be able to put the booster pack on the ground and reach most cars batteries. Another feature I like is the clamp plates on the side of the unit. When you wrap the booster cables up you can then use them to secure the clamps to the pack.

As seen in Figures 7 & 8, the booster pack has a warning label on the back. It also gives a quick refresher on steps to safely jump start a vehicle which is nice if you don't use it very often.

For your safety, we always recommend you read and understand the user manual before using this booster.

In Figure 9 we disassembled this unit to show the inner working of the pack. One of the great features of the JNC770 is the polarity protection integrated device built into the booster. You can see the on board charger as well as the circuit board the controls all the logic for the accessories. The battery is a sealed, non-spillable type so you can store this in any position. The manufacturer recommends storing it in its original box to keep it protected.

Disclaimer: Disassembly was for demonstrational purposes only. Disassembly may void warranty and may cause harm. Do not attempt.

A lot of people like a bright, high visibility color or just prefer green so Clore offers the JNC770 in bright green as shown in Figure 10 below.

In Figure 11 the 770 is connected to a Toyota Sequoia and ready to jump start the car. Here, it is easy to see the length of the cables and that they are long enough to have the unit on the ground while still reaching the battery and engine for ground.

Please read the manual and all the safety warnings in it to avoid damage to property or harm to yourself or anyone helping you.

Now that we have looked at some of the components that make up this booster pack and looked at an example of a unit jumping a battery let's talk about a couple of other important items.

The manufacturer recommends plugging this in to charge until FUL illuminates on the screen . From our experience most come with somewhat of a charge but it's important to fully charge it before you try and jump a vehicle. This will ensure a longer battery life. This initial charge should be done with using the 120 volt method.  Subsequent re-charges can be done using the 12 volt male-to-male cable using a vehicle's cigarette lighter while the car is running but this method will take longer to reach full charge.

If you aren't using the booster pack regularly it’s a good idea to check the charge status once a month. If your boosters voltage status shows CHG or flashing CHG, it's time to put it on charge. If you do use the booster frequently it is good not to deplete the battery completely before charging it. Many shops we have as customers keep these plugged in when not in use. The on-board charging regulator will not allow the battery to be overcharged.

If replacing the internal battery, please be aware that it is a lead-acid battery and must be properly disposed of.

As with all products it’s a good idea to register your Jump-n-Carry with the manufacturer after your purchase. Instructions on how to do that can be found in the user's manual or at https://cloreautomotive.com/product/jnc770r/. It is also important to keep your receipt as it will be required if you need to use the warranty for any reason.

Probably the most important thing to do before using this booster pack is to read the manual and familiarize yourself with all the suggested best practices to use this booster while being safe and avoiding injury or damage to the vehicle.
