Testing for and identifying the source of electrical issues is a hassle. Even if you have a test light and a digital multimeter, you may have to keep replacing components until the issue is resolved. But there’s a more effective option. You can spend some extra cash on a Power Probe for a more in-depth analysis of the electrical issues you’re facing.
What Does The Power Probe Do?
The Power Probe may seem to be a simple tool at first appearance, and so it is, but its real value lies in the fact that it makes it much easier to track the source of wiring issues. The multimeter can tell you whether the wire is live or not, but you must flip its leads to determine whether it is positive or negative.
When you insert the 12-volt (or battery-powered) Power Probe into a wire or circuit, you'll know immediately whether the wire or circuit is active and, more importantly, if you're on the positive or negative side of the circuit. By itself, this provides answers to several issues.
The probe's tip may provide either a positive or negative charge, making it possible to power a circuit without first having to remove the probe from the circuit. The circuit may be powered on or off with the flip of a momentary switch.
The Power Probe also has a built-in resettable 10 amp breaker for additional safety. A pigtail connected to the probe's base offers a reliable ground reference, enabling a simultaneous evaluation of the ground circuit.
